Spotlight: Attorney Michael J. Barry

Michael J. Barry, who has practiced law in Framingham for thirty years, specializes in estate planning, probate of estates, and elder law. After graduating from New York University Law School in 1973, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City. On returning to Massachusetts, he served as Assistant Attorney General, until 1979, when he opened his private law practice in Framingham. He also earned a graduate law degree in taxation at Boston University Law School in 1985. “Estate planning is a challenging area of practice,” he says, “with constant changes in tax law both at the federal and state level. I pride myself in keeping current with the law and producing a comprehensive set of documents which address all the client’s needs and concerns.” Michael’s office, at 860 Worcester Road, Framingham, is completely computerized, enabling him to prepare a set of unique documents for each client, efficiently and in a timely fashion. Concerning the elderly, Michael satisfies their need for long term care planning and end of life decisions. These concerns involve will updates, trusts to protect assets, and instruments to address mental incapacity. “I have more options for elderly clients if they come in before they start to show signs of mental weakness. Procrastination is the real problem with elder law planning. People should just do it.”
